KESTRELS

Kestrels are of the Falcon family, they are birds of prey. They are identified by their hunting behaviour, they hover at a height of 10-20 metres over open country and swoop down on their prey, usually small mammels such as mice, rabbits and lizards. They have very good eyesight.Their feathers are brown, grey and black. The female Kestrel is larger than the male.
Kestrels do not build their own nests but use nests built by other birds or they nest in a hole in a tree or on a cliff ledge and line hole with sticks and straw.
Their call is a loud ¨kee-kee-kee¨
